About the Artisans
Due to economic pressures, most Mayan women in Guatemala struggle to use their traditional weaving skills for clothing. As a cooperative of women on Lake Atitlan, they have learned to transform their weaving skills into intricate hand beaded jewelry in beautiful color palettes. Helping them with new skills and creating a market for their jewelry creates prosperity and hope for many artisans who can now work in their homes while tending to their families. The Mayan women who create this jewelry are warm, loving, very talented and each piece is as special as their creator.
